The project is part of an educational development for Maritime studies. These include various programs - Faculty residences, Student Hostel, Academic building, Recreation Building, Training Building, Parade Ground and Play fields.

The site is a contoured site in Khopoli, at the foothills of the western ghats, with lateritic soil and a river passing adjacent to the plot, resulting in a high water table. The design looks at several ways in which the landscape can tie in with the programs of the building while rendering a functional outdoor space for the students and teachers.
